DUNEDIN WOOL SALE
WORLD’S RECORD ESTABLISHED The prices realised at the Dunedin wool sale on Thursday—prices that Mr H. A. Salmond, chairman of the Woolbrokers’ Association, told a Daily Times reporter constitute a re. cord for Dunedin, and, in fact, for any of the world’s markets so far as the grades of wool offered are concerned —have more than exceeded the wildest dreams of the producers and the brokers. Notwithstanding this, there was a tendency on the part of a few growers to hold their Wool for still higher prices. The bales sold averaged £2O each, which means that over £500,000 — enough to conduct the affairs of the League of Nations for six months—has accrued to Otago through the disposal of what is now truly the golden fleeee. It is considered that the bulk of the English buyers’ purchases were on behalf of the U.S.A, and Canada. The one direct American buyer present, it may be mentioned, brought only about 10 bales. Following is the range of prices which show a decided advance on those ruling at the Christchurch sale on January 23.— Merino. —Extra super 27d to 20£d; Super, 241 d to 26fd; average, 22d to 24d; inferior, 19d to 21 id.
