IN THE COURTS.
THREE MEN SENTENCED. ; Per Press Association—Copyright. MURCHISON, May 26. At the Court to-day, before Mr T E. Munsell, S.M., on the information of Frank Oxford, Collector of Customs, Greymouth, Thomas Henry Bagust was charged with having in his possession a still suited for distilling spirits. Leonard Thomasou and Charles Henry Lord, alias Harry Lloyd, both of Gowan Valley, were charged with having in their possession a still suitable for distilling spirits, and with knowingly supplying an unlicensed still to Henry Bagust. Th.e evidence disclosed that Bagust had bought certain tools from Thomason and Lord, which included the plant. The plant had been overcarried to Murchison, and came under the notice of the local constable. Inquiries subsequently traced the plant to Lord and Thomason, who, however, had then left the section.
Bagust pleaded guilty, and was fined £5O. Lord and Thomason pleaded not guilty. Thomason was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment; and Lord, whom the magistrate said was the ringleader, to 15 months.
