THE STOCK MARKETS.

STUDHOLME SALE.

At Studholme sale yesterday there tie and three were sold —one cow at. was a yarding of eight head of cat£l6, one heifer at £3 ss, and one cow at £4. A Jersey heifer was passed at £8 15s.

The sheep yarding consisted of 2400, of which 1750 were fats.

The fat sale was slightly over anticipated prices, and the ruling price for lamb was fully 7fd per head. Prices were up to 27s lOd. A large proportion of the fats was ewes, some of indifferent quality, but the bulk fair to good, and sold at probably a shade over last rates. The following is the range of prices:—

Lambs: 245, 24s 9d, 22s 2d, 20s Id, 245, 25s 3d, 18s 6d, 22s 9d 20s 21s, 24s 3d, 23s lOd, 26s sd, 25s 27s lOd. Ewes: 13s 7d 15s 3d, Ils, 13s 9d, 13s 7d, 14s, Ils lOd, 11s 7d, 13s 6d, 12s Id, 13s 9d, 14s 6d 13s 9d. Wethers: 22s 6d. Stores: 39 old halfbred ewes 8s Id 72 fat and forward lambs 20s 6d; 25 f.m. ewes passed 10s; 60 f.ra. ewes 6s 9d; 200 3 and 4 year ewes passed 19s 9d; 70 halfbred failing mouthed ewes 14s 9d passed.

The market was similar to last week, except for prime mutton, which advanced about 2s per head. Store Sheep—A much smaller entry, but the demand improved as the sale progressed. Good ewes were fully up to recent values, wethers were firm at late rates, with lambs unaltered. Fairly forward lambs 14s to 15s, good 12s to 13s 7d; medium 10s 3d to 11s 9d; good halfbred ewe lambs 20s, good crossbred 6 and Bth ewes in lamb 22s 6d to 255, good 4th halfbred ewes in lamb 27s 6d, good 4th threequarterbred ewes in lamb 25s 9d, ordinary 4, 6 and Bth ewes in lamb 18s 3d to 20s 3d, failingmouthed 10s 5d to 14s lid, aged 9s to Ils, cull 3s lid to 6s 9d; forward 4 and 6th wethers 18s 7d to 21s Bd, ordinary 13s lid to 17s, 2th 12s 9d to 14s lid.

Fat Lambs.—3l6o were penned, compared with 4963 last week. The bulk was of indifferent quality. Prime sorts were up to last week’s rates, 7 7-8 d per lb, seconds 7Jd to 7|d, extra prime lambs 25s to 28s lOd, prime 21s 9d to 24s 6d, medium 19s to 21s 6d, light unfinished 16s to 18s 9d. Fat Sheep.—An unusually small yarding and an improvement for prime mutton of up to 2s per head with more for a few special pens. Extra prime wethers 28s 6d to 395, prime 24s 3d to 28s 3d, medium 20s 3d to 245, light unfinished 15s 6d to 19s 9d, extra prime ewes 24s 6d to 27s 9d, prime 20s 9d to 245, medium 15s to 19s 9d, light unfinished 12s 6d to 14 s 9d, old 9s 7d to Ils 6d.

Fat Cattle.—44o were penned, including some good station lines. Good beef was firm, but inferior weak. A West Coast draft of 32 averaged £l4 Ils 9d, extra prime steers £l4 10s to £lB, prime £lO 10s to £l4, medium £7 10s to £lO 7s 6d, inferior £4 10s to £7 ss, extra prime heifers £lO, prime £5 5s to £B, ordinary £3 2s 6d to £5 2s 6d, extra prime cows £9 2s 6d, prime cows £5 to £7 10s, ordinary £3 to £4 17s 6d. Vealers’ prices improved on late rates; runners £4 12s 6d, good vealer s £3 10s to £4 7s 6d, medium £1 12s 6d to £2 17s 6d, small calves 5s upwards. Store Cattle.—The demand for heifers was not so keen. Four year steers £5 5s to £6, three year £3 to £3 15s, two year £2 to £2 ss, yearling 30s to 40s, two year heifers in calf £4 15s to £5 ss, yearling and 18 months £2 10s to £3 ss, medium cows £1 7s 6d to £1 12s 6d, poor 15s to 20s.

Dairy Cattle.— Prices were lower all round, but good cow s just calved or close to calving sold well. Good 2nd and 3rd calvers £l5 ss, ordinary £7 10s to £ll, good springing heifers £l3, ordinary £5 to £8 10s, cows in milk £5 to £9, aged and inferior 10s to £3 10s.

Fat Pigs.— A. rather brighter sale. Choppers £3 to £4 15s, light baconers £3 5s to £3 15s, heavy £4 to £4 7s 6d, extra heavy £4 13s 6d, average price per b 6|d to 6Jd; light porkers 35s to 455, heavy 50s to 57s 6d, average price per lb 7Jd to Bd, stores’ values showed little change, large Stores 50s, medium 23s to 28s, weaners 6s to 12s.
