HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.

INDIGNATION IN OPOTIKI DISTRICT. WITH HEALTH DEPARTMENT Press Assn.—By Tel—Copyright. Opotiki, this day. The Opitiki district is seething with indignation over the extravagance of the administration of the present Bay of Plenty hospital district, due principally to the Health Department, which insists on lavish expenditure and compels the rate payers to pay.

A public meeting was held last night when the Mayor outlined the situation, mentioning particularly the erection of a large hospital at Whakatane to- cost £20,000, compared with £3500 for Opotiki Hospital. The Mayor pointed out that Opotiki district has contributed more than Whakatane, owing to the higher valuation there. He quoted figures showing a separate district comprising Opotiki County and Borough that could be administered more economically and efficiently. A resolution was passed unanimously in favour of severance from V hakatane district and a committee was appointed to obtain signatures for a petition to Parliament.
