FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

MORVEN. COURT STAR OF WAIHAO. The quarterly meeting of Court Star of Waihao, No. 7929, A.0.F., was held in the Morven Hall on Mon day evening last, when the C.R., Bro. A. Cleveland, presided over a large attendance of members. Bro Cleveland duly opened the Court. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Woodwards reported onie member still on the funds. Inward and outward correspondence was read and received. The auditor’s report and balance sheet and showed the finance of the Court were presented by Bro J. C. Hay, to be in a very satisfactory state the funds-tof the Court showing an increase of £6O for the year, and the membership an increase of four. The ■ total funds of the Court now stand at £676 Ils lid, and the membership at 44. The report and balance sheet were unanimousely adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the auditors for their services. Bros Kearton and Dickson, the Court’s delegates to the South Canterbury Disteist, reported on the business transacted at the District meeting, held in Morven on March 23, and were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their services. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:. C.R., Bro W. L. Hay; S.C.R., Bro E. G. Hay; S.W. Bro A. E. Kearton; J.W, Bro A G. Woods; 5.8., Bro J. Horsburgh; J.B Bro S. Morton; Treasurer, Bro E. S. Marshall; Secretary, Bro C. Dickson; delegate to Friendly Societies’ Council, Bro C. Dickson. The retiring C.R. installed and invested his successor, and Bro Hay installed his subordinate officers. Bro Hay returned thanks for the houour conferred on him, and said he would do his best in the interests of the Court during the term. Hearty votes of thanks were ‘accorded the retiring officers for their services during the term, and it was unanimously decided to present the retiring C.R. with a P.C.R.’s certificate and collar. Bro Cleveland returned thanks for the motion. Accounts amounting to £l6 12s lOd were passed for payment. One candidate was duly proposed for membership. The nomination was approved and ordered to stand over till next meeting. The receipts for the evening amounted to £2O 0s 6d. The newly installed C.R. then duly closed the Court.

GRAND ORANGE LODGE.

AUCKLAND. April 15.

The annual meeting of the Grand Lodge L. 0.1. of New Zealand was opened this morning, the R.W. Grand Master, (Bro Bev. G. Knowles Smith) presiding. Two hundred delegates attended.

In his report the Grand Master made further reference to Irish affairs. So far as the Orange institution in the Dominion was concerned, they had every reason to be grateful for the evident signs of the awakening to the claims of Protestantism, which were being manifested throughout the length and breadth of the land. Considerable advance had been made by the opening of new lodges and the influx of members into existing lodges. He was pleased to note that the number of ladies’ lodges was increasing very rapidly. There was a growing demand for juvenile lodges. There was also an increase of lodge libraries, and an evident desire to accumulate information, by the purchase of Protestant literature.

The Grand Secretary reported that during the 14 year’s since the fonruvtion of the Grand Lodge, much progress had been made in raising the Order to a greater state of efficiency and making its mission more clearly understood and appreciated. Since last annual meeting 12 new warrants had been issued and one re-issued, making ten male and three female lodges to register and three applications for female warrants had still to be dealt with.
