I The flight and arrest of Boppe, a wealthy inspft-tor of forests in the ’ Nancy district, reveals the incredible treatment of a self-saciflcing ; wife, who is the niece of Maurice : Barres, the novelist. j Boppe, for the sake of an intrigue with a girl when stationed at Epinal : during the war, twice conspired to poison his wife under the guise of affection with cyanide. The plot' was revealed by the children; but the ‘ wife forgave him and later Boppe I shot her twice in bed with a revol- i ver, simulating suicidal appearances. ! The w-ife was operatde upon but was ' permanently disfigured. She again ! forgave him and endorsed the story i that she attempted suicide. Later on, ' learning that Boppe meant to ab- ; scond abroad with his mistress, the ' wife denounced him and procured his arrest. j
