While Parliament was sitting, Mr Hughes addressed 100 members by mI vitaition of the Empire Parliamentary i Committee of Westminster on the Pacific question. He set out the case from the Australian viewpoint, and also discussed the situation as affecting America, China. Japan, and their relation to Australia’s. Ho dealt with all pointe- fully, expressing very great regret that the American Government had been unable to arrange a conference to discuss Pacific matters, oecause without a settlement of these pomte - disarmament was impossible. I He explained the White Australia. I policy, tracing the development of the i sentiment, and emphasising the strong i claim which is now Wd as a national 1 ideal.
