Carslake, who aro second and third in the winiftng rider;; list in England, are both Victorians. J. Fraser junr., who rode St. Hubert at Addington yesterday, is one of the youngest holders of a riding license. He was successful ’’tree times last season.

J, Bryce started the new season well yesterday by annexing the two chief races at Addington. Emilius, who scored in the thousand pounder, is owned by “Mr W. B. Masham,” and was favoured by the going, having been more or less unsound for a long time. Moneymaker is now the property of the Taranaki owner, Mr J R. Corrigan, and is one of the best beginners m commission The Metropolitan Trotting Club, which had to postpone the first day of its August meeting, had a similar experience last year, the opening of the fixture having to bo deterred till the Monday. The third day of the meeting was also postponed, further -heavy rain making the track unsuitable for driving. Last August a number of trainers were disappointed at not being given an opportunity to qualify horses for the Trotting Cup, and it looks as if they may be unfortunate this year again in meeting with heavy tracks at Addington. The state of the going yesterday was evidenced by the times recorded. In the August Handicap tbi winner, Emilius, was bn a 4.33 mark, but took smin 3 4-sscc to cover tbs two miles. Vln the International Hantlicap.Moneymaker was handicapped cn 2.13, but took another eight seconds to compass the journey. The best winning time of the day was that of the square-gaiter King Capitalist, Who won the unhoppled event in Smin, though this was 18sec slower than I’.Ai handicap time.

The King George Handicap, to be run to-morrow, gives a forecast of of Mr Brinkman’s adjustments for the Trotting Cup. Author Dillon is on scratch, Man o’ War on 4sec, Willie Lincoln 4, Cello Sydney Wilkes 5, General Link 6, Asturio 7, Sherwood 7, Reta Peter 7, Emilius 7, Agathos 8. Albert Cling is on the same mark as Man o’ War in the mile add a quarter event, and will presumably be similarly treated at two miles.

OAMARU NOTES. — Two recent additions to Henderson's team: are a pair of young ortes from Cremona Wilkes, the dam' of Cello Svdnev Wilkes. The juveniles have been handled, but the serious part of their education has been entrusted to the North Road mentor. The colt from Nance O’Neil by Nelson Bingen is a shapely fellow and is being broken into harness. He is a dark brown and a hardy little chpp and should come to hand ea rly ~
