H.M.S.'s BULLDOG.

, * * RESCUE BY MIDSHIPMAN IN A FULL GALE. In a bitter gale in the North Sea in March the bulldog of H.M.S. ran to the side to bark at a passing fishing-boat. It was snowing bard, the decks were covered with ice, and the dog slipped and went overboard. It was at once obvious that the dog, a great favorite, would drown ; each wave threw it on its back as it tried to swim, and the spindrift and broken sea made it dangerous water for even a good swimmer. But Midshipman Sydney T. Warr-Buckler at once jumped overheard fully dressed and swam back with the dog to a: rope thrown from the ship. Both were none- the worse. The midshipman has now got the silver medal ol ,';e Royal Society for the Prevent! a of Cruelly to Animals.
