Captain G. Q. Dailey, who has been awarded a, Military Cross in connection with the Mcssines Bat. lie, on the recommendation of Field Marsha] Sir Douglas Haig, is a son of Mr \V. J, Dailey, of Waimaie. When theHvar' broke out he was studying,for the Bar and \vi\r\ fa-i iti time in Messrs Hamilton and Fitch's office. He enlisted and went to, the front with the Main Body, ,a : s; a subaltern in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles.
Mr Morgan O'Brien, for ,lhe past seven years licensee of the Waima|e Hotel an if a well-known trotting enthusiast, who is about to leave Waimafe to' reside in Christchurch, received a; hearty send-off last evening, from rerpessenira4ives of the Racing' Club', A. & P, Asm., Caledonian Society, .and business men. The chairman, Mr D. A. Fulton (president of the Caledonian Society), on behalf of those: present presented Mr O'Brien with a gold locket pendant, engraved and set in emeralds; a gold bangle' for Mrs O'Brien y and a purse of sovereigns for his three children. The hotel staff also presented Mr and Mrs O'Brien with a silver shaving set and dressing case respectively. • . ■ ■ . .
