By our own correspondent. The annual concert and dance in aid of the School funds was field in the School on .Monday evening last, when there was, as usual, a crowded attendance. ' Air H. Max .Whatman (chairman of the School Committee) presiding, and carrying out his duties efficiently. The School was tastefully decorated with evergreens, Hags, etc. The first part of the programme was composed of items by the School children, the rendering of which retlccted great credit on themselves a.,d the touche r (Airs Knight). The songs and pieces were well chosen and al received much applause. The programme was as follows Piano solo, James Knight; song, "Boys of Ocean, Blue,” Seho u l; recitation "The Modern School,” Francis Ala-1 A; dia'ojue, "Shop v. Advantage was taken of the interval by the ladies of the Red Cr 0 s Committee to raise a woo,!-winding Competition. This useful form of amusement proved popular, a,d met with a hearty and enthusiastic re sponse qtiito a large quantity of wool being formed into balls, causing much amusement
. The second part of programme was kindly provided by the Orpheus Society of Waimate under the conduclo’ship of Mr W. L. Hay, Afr J. C. Hurst, in moving a hearty vote of thanks to the teacher, performers and chairman, graded it was the most enjoyable concert ever hel I in the district, (Applause), A substantial supper was then partaken of and done justice to, the ladies coming in for much comment on their ability in making 1 ivoly sandwiches.
The ro 0 m was then cleared for a few hours dancing-, the must'. for .which was supplied by Miss Neil, assisted by local amateurs. Tho M.O, duties were carried out by Mr J. Ford in his usual happy and capable stylo for which ho received thanks. Tho School Committee (M.esßis HM. Whatman, E. Davis, A Young, F.. Burson, and W. E ! d.er on) a c deserving of praise for the ab.’o aid prompt manner in which al carried out their various duties; everything going off without hitch or hindrance, this helped to a large extent in making the event such a success, oD course the wives of the Committee gave valuable assi Q lanco, their efforts being highly appreciated. Hear tv votes of thanks with cheers were given for the Committee, Teacher and Ladies at the break up, all going home quite plca-ed with the evenings entertainment.
