TAWAI NOTES.

PRESENTATION TO ME CRUICK'SHANK. From our own correspondent. Last Thursday evening the many friends of Mr and Mrs Cruickshauk, assembled in the schoolroom to wish them farewell. After several hours “tripping the light fantastic," tho Chairman (Mr J. Smillioj), in a complimentary speech, referred to Mr Onjick, shank's many good qualities, the chief one being his help in tho interests of the school. Mr Oruickshank has been secretary .for tho School Committee for several years, and the duties in this position ho very capably carried out. He then asked Mr Cruickshank" to. accept on behalf o.f his many friends a case of pipes for himself, and a purse of sovereigns for Mrs Cruickshank,, whom he said was the better man of the two (Applause). Tho company then sang "They are Jolly Good Fellows. ’’ Mr Allan Cruickshank then favoured the company with a song, after which Mr Cruickshank returned thanks on behalf of his wife and himself for the handsome presents. He did not know where they would settle, but wherever it would be everyone received a cordial invitation to visit them. A very tasti y supper was then handed round, the dainties being provided by the ladies of the district. At intervals songs by the following were much enjoyed:—Misses Watson and M. Cochrane and Mr J. McAloer. As usual our local artist, Mr Ohas. Pelvin ,(junr.) presided at the piano, and Mr A. E. Pelvin accompanying on the violin. Extras were kindly played by Miss Watson. Mr H. Pelvin left nothing to be desired in his duties as M.C.
