POLITICAL ADDRESS.

MR W. G. PAUL AT ENFIELD. Mr "\V|. G. Paul, a candidate fort he Waitaki seat in the Liberal interests, addressed a, well-attended meeting ol electors in the public hall at Eniield on Thursday evening last. Mr Jl. Freeman occupied the chair. Mr Paul was received with applause. He said that since last election there had been a great change in the political arena. The change was one he did not think the people of the Dominion were proud of. and he thought the historian of the future would lie severely taxed to give a reason why such a beautiful and God-gifted country came under the administration of a retrogressive and Conservative Government. Mr Paul likened the Government to a chameleon, and said also, with Shakespeare, that "Nature hath framed strange fellows in her time." Concluding his address, Mr Paul detailed the following as essential planks in his political platform: The promotion of vigorous settlement of land by subdivision; the use of iuv tional wealth and credit to combat monopolies; the laying of the burden of taxation on shoulders' most able to bear it; the provision of medical and legal assistance for all classes of pcoplq; the establishment of a shjarer.prptflti system jn the industrial field; the enlarging of the facilities for the extension of the education system,; and the promotion of human happiness and contentment. Along such lines as these he believed the political life -of the Dominion should go. Mr Paul was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address, and a similar compliment was accorded to the chairman.—Mail (abridged).
