Waimate Winter Show Society.

MEETING OP COMMITTEE. The Committee of the Winter Show Society met in Miss Willetts’ room on Wednesday evening. There were present: Messrs F. Nash (in the chair), J. Betten, J. S. Butcher, Geo. Reynolds, J. Dench, Carter, J. Carbis and H. Wilson. Voluminous correspondence was received in regard to a dispute between the South Island Poultry and Pigeon Association and the Christchurch Pigeon Club regarding pigeon rings. It was desired that the Waimate Society should appoint a delegate to a meeting of the South Island Association at Dunedin on 28th instant, when it was hoped this matter might be settled finally. At the request of the Chairman, Mr Betten explained the position. Some years ago the Christchurch Pigeon Club had control of the supply of pigeon rings, but could not make them pay. The South Island Association then took them over, and after -a while made a profit—some alleged £6O per year. Now the Christchurch Club were dissatisfied as to the allocation of these profits, contending that it was nearly all going to poultry and very little to pigeons. The Christchurch Club imported rings on their own account, being dissatisfied with the split-rings supplied by the Association. The Association, essaying to import some of the same brand of rings, were refused by the manufacturer. Now the Association proposed to refuse to recognise the rings provided by J the Pigeon Club. J Mr Butcher said the Association * could not supply suitable rings, so J they would be obliged to recognise I the Calumbrian rings at the 1913 J show. The Association would require i to guarantee a supply of correct | rings before this Committee should i support them. J It was resolved that Mr Dench, i who would be visiting Dunedin next [ week, attend the Association meeti ing. [ A number of accounts were rei ceived and passed for payment, but [■ it was decided to object to a charge i for a broken lock in the Oddfellows’. 1 Hall. i A balance-sheet of the recent Show | was presented . This showed the rei ceipts amounted to £154 10s lid, and [ that the credit balance on the Show and art union was £3O odd. The door takings were a record (£36), but the Government exhibit had entailed extra expense. The special prize donated by Mr Morgan O’Brien for the Show pigeon race was 'Allocated as follows:—lst 12s, 2nd 6s, 3rd 3s. It was decided to try and get the 29th and 30th June for the next annual Show. It was resolved that the annual meeting be held in the second week in January.
