Waimate Woman’s Worries.
WIDOW’S UNGRATEFUL SONS.' A USELESS HUSBAND. At the meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board on Wednesday (reports the Post) application for relief was received from a married woman, residing in Waimate. It was stated that the woman is a widow, with three children depending on her. Three of the sons are earning good money, but do not contribute to the support of their mother. The chairman of the Board said that the sons should be compelled to'jsupport their mother. Dr Paterson said the case should be given as much publicity as possible, so that everyone could see what sort of men they were. The Board decided to take action if the sons did not contribute to their mother's support. Another case was that of a Waimate woman with four young children. The husband is a ne’er-do-well, and does not support his wife. The woman is compelled to go out washing and has to take the youngest child with her. I She was not earning sufficient to keep all the children, and some of her employers objected to her bringing the child with her. She is paying 5s a week rent. The Board agreed tc pay the rent, and provide for the groceries.
