THE WAIMATE OPENING
PRESIDENT “TIES” VICE-PRESI-DENT. Yesterday afternoon the Waimate Bowling-, Tennis, and Croquet. Club opened their season. Mr C. G. Holmes (President), addressing the ‘players, congratulated last year’s President on the success of the Club in match play. The bowlers had done fairly well, and the tenuis teams had come through unbeaten. Since last year three good bowlers had left the district, viz., M. Hcaly, L. Miller and M. Thompson. He concluded by urging members to show more interest in the financial working of the Club, by anttending the annual meeting in force. The wife of the President then rolled up the first bowl, and the season was declared open. A bowling match President versus Vice-President resulted in a tic, A. Inkster, for the V.P’s, altering the last head of the match with his last bowl ,and converting the President’s lead of one into a tie. The South Island touring team played a match against teams representative of the Wanganui Clubs on Wednesday, and a very exciting game ensued, South Island eventually winning by 193 points to 192.
