Waimate Scottish Association.

THE ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting was held on Thursday evening in tie new practice hall of the Waimate Pipe Band (kindly lent by the Band for the occasion), and Mr Strachan, the retiring President, occupied the chair. The report and balance sheet showed a satisfectory year's working. The President apologised for the unavoidable postponement of several important meetings',owing to the broken weather of the past session. He thanked all the office-bearers,who had given their services gratuitously, and referred especially to the enthusiasm and goed work of the retiring Secretary, Mr W. Menzies.

The following appointment for the ensuing year were then made:-Pre-sident, A. Hume; Vice-Presidents, Messrs J«s. Strachan and Wm. Geddes; Hon. Secretary, T. A. Greig; Hon, Treasurer, A. Shearer; Committe, Messrs G. Campbell, M. Cochrane, A. Cooper, A. Donald, W. Menzies, W. G. Paul, R, R. G. Rattray, T. Richard, J. Ritchie, M. Smith, J. Symon

A ladies’ sub-committee was also formed, all the ladies present (Mesdames Geddes, Hume, Menzies and

Miss Cooper) agreeing to act, and other ladies will be invited to co-oper-ate with them.

Several invitations were received for social evenings at the residences of friends, and it was decided to hold musical evenings quarterly, to which all members could be invite i, while the smaller socials would be held monthly by invitation, these being necessarily restricted owing to space not being always available lor a full attendance.

Tin Waima e Pipe Bard, by throwing open their new practice hall to the Association free of charge have conferred a great boon on the Association, and the fine hall was much admired by all present.

Suggestions for literary and other competitions, during the seaeon were discussed, and, as nnat of th:s3 present were also members of the Caledonian Society, it was proposed that some combined action might ba taken towards joint meetings of the marchers of both Societies, it was, however, resolved that while the Caledonian Society continued to cater for the outside sports of piping, dancing, athletics, and while the Scottish Association catered (or the musical and

literary meetings, each Society was doing work, and by co-operation on the part of the members of each association to help the objects of both the same result would be achieved. Intending new members are requested to hand in their names to the honorary secretary, Mr T. A. Greig, or any of the office bearers.
