Late Locals.

A citizens' , meeting, presided over by the Mayor, will bs held in the New Club rooms on Friday night. The proposal to be put before the meeting is that u certain Saturday be fixed and a bund of young ladies organised to take up a street collection for Dr. Barnatdo's Homes, somewhat on the lirtes of "Hospital Day" in Dunedin. The appeal made is a wide and unsectarian one.

On Saturday evening Mrs Roberts and Mr George Dash addressed some hundrads of people in Queen Street on the subject ofNo-Licenss and National Prohibition. Subsequently Mr Geo. Bolton, formerly a resident of Oamaru, got up on the box and challenged some of the statements made by Mr Dasb. He declared, inter alia, that under '"'Prohibition" in Oamaru mere women and youthß were learning the taste of alcohol than urder Ihe open bar system. He also asserted that one firm of carriers delivered on Christmas Eve barrels of liquor, making about 500 gallons. Afterwards he wsb, challenged by Mr G. Daßh to publicly debate the question of the success of No-License in Oamaru, and- replied that he would be pleased to accept, as he had lived for 17 or 18 years in Oamaru and could not allow Mr Dash's statements to go uncontradicted. Subsequently Mr Dash wrote asking Mr Bolton to fix a date, and the latter has replied naming November 7th, which Mr Dash has agreed to.
