Odd Horse.
ONE TO RJ.T.
Though I stand alone and blighted, And my hopes are buried low, By’ your smile my soul is lighted, In this darkest night of woe. By the world I am quite forsaken, You are true as in the past; Your friendship still remains unshaken By the storm and tempest Vlast. And when others had defamed me, To their lies you did not heed; As a friend I ever claimed thee, Truest in my utmost need. And now by the world forsaken, And a mark for envious hate; Though heart-broken, yet soul unshaken, I am equal to my fate. No worse than the past has brought me Can the future have in store; And the lesson well has taught me To place my trust in hope no more.. Though by all the world forsaken, I have still a friend in thee, And tis sweet, ’the one unshaken the truest one to me. —J. F. Burke. Aranioho, October, 1905.
