The following results of experi- ' lnents conducted o.t the Canterbury "i Agi'ioultuval College farm, Lincoln, " in the season of 1899-1900, were : reported to the Board of Governori ] on March 18th, and ar« communi- 1 cated by Mr J, Bayne, M.A., B.Sc* ? in Agri., Director;

The barley io the thinly-sowa ,£ parts was long as to the straw and * as to the heads ; in the thickly-sown ,, ■parts the straw and heads were ; shn/fcei*. The thinly-sown parts did not ripen so evenly as the thicklysown parts. r he quality of the grain was fairly equal.

Experiment with different culti- ; vation with same quantity of seocL: per acre. After Wheat — Par bonce ploughed ; and sown with If bua of Nonpareil wheat per acre yielded 50^bus per acre. Part twice ploughed and sown with l-|bus of Nonpareil per aero yield 48^-bus per acre. After Grass — Part once ploughed (5 acres) and sown with ljbus of Pearl wheat per acre yielded 47f bus per acre. Part twice ploughed (17 acce.s) and sown with l|-bus of Peatl wheat per acre yielded 45^bua per aero. Contrary to previous experiment* ; the parts twice ploughed did not yield quite so well as those once ploughed, which was no doubt on account of the heavy rain prevailing shortly after the wheat was drilled. The twice ploughed parts became sodden, and when tho dry weather came they baked and cracked more than the parts that were once ploughed.
