Croup No. 9 (Christchurch City) shortage, 5; Group No. 10 (Timaru) surplus, 42; Croup No. 11 (Kaiapoi) surplus, 20; Croup No. 11A. (Grevmouth) shortage 14; Croup No. 12 (Nelson) surplus 4. Total surplus for i Canterbury military district, 47. Croup No. 13 (Dunedin City) short age, 22; Group No. 14 (Invercargill, surplus 2; Group No. 15 (Onniarn) shortage, 2; Group No 16. (Milton) surplus 4. Total shortage for Otago military district, 18. The total Dominion surplus for the IStJi Reinforcements is 176. Tile,.-, was existing at the same date a shortage on prevous drafts, owing to wastage in camp, of 89, but the surplus enlistments shown above for the 18th Reinforcements now converts 'this Into an excess of 88. WEST COAST RECRUITS. The West Coast quota for the Eighteenth Reinforcements has now been filled,. 20 men from Group 10 (Timaru) having been accepted In make up the local shortage, so that further enlistments locally will perforce not bo despatched with the Eighteenths, who leave Greymoutli him, Wednesday. The dosing of the lists for West Coast recruiting a week before the day of mobilisation is a new departure and indicative of the filip to recruiting in other parts of the Can ierbnry district, the local deficiency having been made up in order to allow the authorities to say definitely they will accept for the 'Eighteenths the surplus offerings in other. district's.
