■FOOTWEAR RKOUDATIONS. WEILINGTON, Juno 19; In consequence of Uio provisions of the I'notw oar Regulation Act a number of inspectors have boon appointed recently. The inspectors mot in Wellington and ha vo now issued a circular for general information. It is pointed out that the Act provides that evei.v boot or shoo containing such substitutes for leather as “leather board,” “compo hoard,” or plain cardboard, shall he branded on the solo to indicate to what extent such substitute is used. Wooden heels are sometimes used in women’s walking shoos, and the only objection to those is that they sometimes fall off. Their presence, however, should he indicated on the brand. It is recommended that any oases whore an unbranded boot or shoo containing substitutes for leather is .discovered should bo reported to the local Inspector of Factories, who will communicate with the Inspector under the Footwear Act in cases where such inspector is a separate official.
