NAVAL OPERATIONS.

HEROES OP THE CORONT.iL F7GHT. MEMORIAL TO REAR-ADMIRAL OBADOGK. AIR.. BALFOUR’S TOUCHING TRIBUTE. By Telegraph—Per Press Association) (Received, 7..‘10 p.m.. June 17th.) LONDON, June 17. A monument to Rear-Admiral Cradick has been unveiled at Vorkminsler Cathedral.

The cathedral was crowded, ami ifter tho “List Post” was sounded t the end of a solemn service, JU. Hon. air. Balfour unveiled the beauliul marble and albastor memorial. Mr. Balfur said:— “Rear-Admiral 'Jradoek’s deed was not one of uneal--ulating daring, but was inspired by >. higher wisdom than calculation and

• higher courage than daring. He attacked because he knew that the Cerium fleet in the Pacific were far from •ny dock-yards where they' could refit, and no friendly bases were open o them if they suffered any damage, i’liis power for evil had been utterly lestroyed, but Rear-Admiral Cradock vas unable to foresee the battle of ’he Falklands and only knew that the German squadron was a great peril ’n the Pacific while if, remained ef'lcient. Rear-Admiral Cradock judged that his squadron would be well sacrificed, if l;e destroyed the power of a hostile fleet. If I am right in estimating Rear-Admiral Cradock’s motives, then there was never a nobler •ict, unsuccessful though it was, than that of the Coronel fight. Rear-Ad-miral Cradock and his comrades have won an immortal place in the list of naval heroes who have built the Empire.” BRITISH TORPEDO BOAT SUNK. BY A COLLISION IN THE CHANNEL.
