AUSTRALIA'S PART. ADDITIONAL FIFTY THOUSAND TO BE SENT. {Per Press Asscwiation.—Coptright.l MELBOURNE, November 24. Following a Cabinet meeting, Hon. Mr. Hughes announced that the Government had, after very careful consideration of the present outlook, decided to raise an additional 50,000 men for active service, who are to he available within the nest- few months. Thev will form new units independent of the quota of 9,500 monthly necessary for reinforcements. He added that the prinoTple of voluntary enlistment will he adhered to. He promised an early opportunity to disclose the reasons for taking this important step in assisting the Allies to bring the war to a successful conclusion. A THREAT. LONDON, November 24. Tn the House of Commons, Mr. Byrne in requesting Ireland's exemption in the event of conscription, declared that it would be resisted by drilled, armed forces. Hon. Mr. Asquith deprecated tho threat, and said ho could not enlarge on his previous statements in regard tn conscription.
