HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The ordinary meeting of the above Committee was held last evening at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs Lloyd (in the chair), King, Preston, Shannon, Stevenson, MeNanghton and Aitken. The minutes of the, previous meeting were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence was approved.

INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Education Board, acknowledging receipt of resolution regarding Miss Horton’s unsatisfactory record..— Received,

From the same, forwarding copies of regulations under the Kdneaton Act. including those relating to .subsidies on voluntary contributions for school purposes.—Received. From Borough Council, slating that request for repairs to drain had been referred to the Public Works Committee.—Received.

From Mariner Bros., Christchurch, "onvarding illustration of framed, “Roll of Honour,” which was being supplied a: £1 Is.—Reeeved.

J From the Hector, submitting a special report on the staffing of tho secondary department.—Received and resolved that the report he forwarded to the Board for favourable consideration. From the rector, reporting average attendance for the past month as .‘1(58 out of a roll of 380; reporting that Mr. o’Donnell had been acting as secondary assistant pending the arrival of Miss Oasey on the 13th inst., reporting that woodwork and cookery classes were now in operation, and that as a consequences one of the secondary classes had .had to be accommodated in a makeshift room in the gymnasium.—Received. From Miss Dixon, South Beach, reporting average attendance at 27; also that the asphalting was being proceeded with.—Received.

The visiting committee reported that the only matter requiring attention was the deeping of a drainage shaft to take waste water off the playground.—'This was authorised.

Messrs Hickson and MeNanghton were appointed visitors for the. month. Accounts amounting to £lO Os 6d were passed for payment and tho meeting then terminated.
