WESTLAND PATRIOTIC FUND.

EXECUTIVE MEETING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th. A meeting of the Executive wai held at the Town Clerk’s Office at 2.45 o'clock. Present; The Mayor of Hokitika (Mr. Perry), in the Chair; the Chief Qommtaairaier of Crow* Lauda <Mr. Haacard), The County Chairman (Mr. Clifton), the Mayor of Jtoaa (Mr. (irimmtmd), and the Hon. TVeaaurer and Hon. Sebretary.

An apology for absence was received from Captain Colclough. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was approved. INWARD OORHESPONHENCE.

From Wellington and Christchurch Patriotic Societies notifying adjourned meeting of Conference at Wellington on 16th inst. to consider the adoption of a national constitution, and asking for a description of the boundary of the district covered hy the Westland branch.—Received. It was resolved that Messrs Grimmond «"d Evans represent the Westland Branch at the conference, and that the district be the Westland County .with the three interior boroughs.

From D. McLaren, organiser of the National Art Union promoted by the Wellington Society, asking that tickets bo sold in Westland, tbs dktrict to participate in the benefit from the sales.—Received, and agreed to. From Military Headquarters, supplying death certificate in the case ot „ killed soldier; notifying scale of intermediate relief the Department will give till war pensions are granted; replying (in another case) that 'deferred pay would be paid to next-of-kin according to law, if the deceased soldier had not made a will; granting (in a further case) intermediate relief for 28 weeks to a mother who had lost a son, pending the question of a pension being disposed of.—Received.

From the Principal Medical Officer at Trehthnm, replying that the Committoe'g wishes with regard to <*>mforts for sick Westland men would be attended to.—Received. From C. J. Pfaff, 38 Pine Street. Wellington, agreeing to represent tin* Committee when sick or wounded men wore returning, and stating what the West Coasters’ Association wens already doing in attending to returned men from Egypt, and now in Wellington.— Received with thanks. 1' loin Hokitika Horough Council, regretting financial assistance could not be given to the fund at present.—lieceived. (iEN'ERAL, Tlie Treasurer reported that the funds so far received totalled £4.50. whereof £4.5 was derived from art union receipts. Other funds were In transit, which would bring the funds up to about £SOO. IV members spoke appreciatively of the donation of £IOO 12s Cd received from Hari Hari. It was resolved to vote £5 to the fund being promoted by Miss Solomon to send Christmas gift bags to the Westland men at the front.

It was resolved to again write to the local bodies in respect to contribution*, the Westland County Council (sung he only contributing body so far. Mr (.'rimmond suggested that all socounts incurred should be properly authorised and passed in due form liy the committee, so us to strictly comply with the parliamentary enactment now being made in respect to the patriotic lunds. The treasurer said this ■ourse hud been pursued throughout. The meeting then concluded.
