DOMINION DEFENCE.

HOKITIKA DISTRICT RIFLI. CLUB.

At last night’s parade the Club elected their permanent officers. Lieut.-Col. J. C. -Macfarlane was appointed platoon commander, and Mr. Alf. Folley platoon sergeant. The section sergeants appointed were Messrs Batson, Leslie, McGregor amd Sweeney, and the section corporals are Messrs Breeze, Harrop, Richardson and AVognn.

The election of these officers was received with applause from the ranks and judging by the .enthusiasm displayed in the movement by the gentlemen selected, the interest will not be allowed to wane. Ninety-nine member of the Club went through different courses, some in elementary squad drill other g being instructed in tho handling of the rifle, and others doing their preliminary tests in sighting and aiming a rifle. The four sections werb instructed by Sergeant-Major AVatts, Lieutenants Parkhill and Mills and Quartermaster Sergeant Wallace.
