EPIDEMIC, OqSTUIKES. SYDNEY, April 17. There is a large or n of minor strike*= in different parts ol the Commonwealth. There were no less than live distinct strikes in Sydney yesterday, mostly through men bring dismissed for various reasons. Only one looks like spreading, lhat of the carters refusing to handle chaff declared to be “non-union." This strike started at Cool*won, where members of ibe Australian Workers’ Union struck. The farmers handled their own chaff, hut the engine drivers firpmen anti guards rofusod to work the train carryineg the chaff and were dismissed. Others brought it to Sydney. Now the carters refuse to touch it. The Federation of Labour upholds the strikers. The Employers’ Federation will support the Master’Carriers’ Association in anv steps taken.
