WANGANUI CAB II ISON WELCOMED HOME. STATEMENT BY CONDUCTOH. [PER PRESS A/JSOCiATJO.V, — COI'YItIUHT. • WANGANUI,'Fob. IT. The Wanganui Garrison Hand was heartily welcomed home liy a very large crowd' to-night. Conductor Wade, in reply to the Mayor's address of welcome said that ho was satisfied with the Band’s performance at the Auckland contest. It had been reported in an Auckland paper, he said, that Captain Bentley had placed a black mark against his band’s name for misconduct in Saturday’s incident. Mr. Wade warmly refuted this charge. The Wanganui Garrison was one of the finest disciplined bands in New Zealand. His band would never play again in a North Island Baud Contest under Captain Bentley, unless that gentleman did the honourable thing and retracted the unwarranted imputation he had made. Mr. Wade did not comment on the judging.
