HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD.
The statutory meeting of the Board was hold last evening at 7 o’clock. There were present: Messrs R. “Wild, J, J. Mclntosh and H. L. Michel. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The secretary took the- chair and invited nominations for the position of Chairman. Air. Wild moved and Air, “Mclntosh seconded that Air. Michel be re-elected Chairman. This being the. only nomination the secretary declared Mr. Michel to he reelected for a further terra. Mr. Alichel briefly returned thanks for his re-election. The absence of Air. Lloyd was apologised for, the Chairman stating that the members’ non-appearance was due to ill-health. Mr. Alichel expressed the hope that Air. Lloyd would be well enough to attend the next meeting of the Board. The Chairman reported having attended the meeting of representatives (J local bodies and that on his motion Air. Kennedy had been appointed to attend the conference at Wellington. He expressed the opinion that the Local Government Bill which was to be discussed at the conference had not the slightest chance of being passed during the coming session, but he felt mre that Air. Kennedy would do his utmost to safeguard the interests of tiie district. Inward Correspondence. From F. G. Thomas, offering os per cek for the use of the Board’s Worthington pump and other gear, which he required for unwatering a shaft. —Received.
Moved by MV. Wild that the matter lie left in the hands of the engineer to deal with. Seconded by Mr. Mclntosh and carried. Accounts amounting to £ll2B 9s 2d were passed for payment. REPORTS. The Engineer reported Contract 3/11. North Wall Extension. Fifty-six feet of the wall has been c nstructed during the past monfffi, making the total length 416 ft. The
beach is following the works out and all but some twenty feet at the extreme ends is secure against heavy seas. Contract 4/11. New South Wall. Satisfactory progress has been maintained, 35ft of wall has been constructed during the past month, making the total IGOft. There is a deep accumulation of sand around the works, making the tide work very difficult.
Skids for Timber. The heavy loadin'; on the weak portion of the wharf continues and [ would suggest two sets of skids he put in to relieve the wharf of tho heavy strain imposed upon it, Tho skids would be supported on the old piles of the wharf and ho some 66ft in length, when fully loaded each would carry 50,000 Lo 60,000 super feet of timber. This would be much cheaper than any satisfactory repairing which could he done to make tho wharf secure.— Received, The Engineer was instructed to prepare plans for necessary skids and tho report was adopted. Tho meeting then terminated.
