MORE NATIONALISATION TALK.

MR LAURENSON’S IDEAS. j>ER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT.] WELLINGTON, April 12. Replying to a deputation from the Timber’ Workers’ Conference, Hon. Geo. Laureiisou said that he had a good deal of sympathy with the proposals to nationalise the timber industry, but he did not think it could bo t a elded in the near future- He did not see how they could avoid leaving mortgagors to have first call in the case of bankrupt employers. The Minister personally favored increasing the duty on foreign timber but this would moan raising the cost of living. The establishment of a State ferry service would be a necessary corollary to the completion of the South Island Main Trunk Railway.

On other points, the Minister said In was in sympathy with the objects o the deputation.

On the question of the price of food Mr Lanvenson said that the milk supply should bo dealt with by municipalities. Under a. municipal system the cost of distribution could bo re duced by 75 per cent.
