FIRST CHARGE UPON INDUSTRY
CISHOP OF OXFORD OX WAGES. [1 TCUiJRAPH—PFR PRFSS ASSOCIATION LONDON, April 11. Dr. Gore, Bishop of Oxford, slates that wages no longer settle themselves hy law, but supply and demand was the proper basis. The reconstruction of society on the principle that adequate payment for those who laboured should be the first charge upon industry should bo a permanent standard wage. This would doubtless entail a standard of efficiency in the worker.
