RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. The weather was fine and the track in good order at Riccarton this morning, and some good sclioolimr was witnessed. Prospector jumped the - double well, and then did two rounds at half pace. Tauira was looking well and jumped the six hurdles in good style, save that he made an indifferent effort at the fourth obstacle.

Lovell gave a finished display once round the big fence. Kiatere and Bullworth were given a similar task. Kiatere gave a safe display, but Bullworth was not so pleasing.

Breadless went once round on the sand at half-pace, finishing with a half mile in 49 4-5.

Mahuta, Waitapu and Stayboy were companions over the hurdles. Stayboy lost his rider at the first obstacle, and Mahuta after a good exhibition followed suit at the last hurdle. Waitapu’s exhibition was an improvenient on his previous effort. Stayboy subsequently jumped five hurdles well and Southern Cross jumped two. Lebeau, Loch Fyne and Red Macgregor were given a schooling task at the big fences. Bed Macgregor went once round, fencing- slowly but safely. Thai other jail - went an extra round, jumping faultlessly. Waione and Exmoor went once ,round the big fences, fencing slowly. Tyrannic gave a- safe display once »onnd at hunting pace. Explosive gave a fair display over four hurdles.

The New York Jockey Club and other racing organisations in tile State of New York have decided to end their racing operations on August 31st, when tlie betting laws become effective. _ Their counsel lias advised the racing clubs not to risk arrest. It is doubful whether racing will - be resumed hi New York unless the law is modified.
