NEWCASTLE, March 18.—TheWharf Labourers and Coal Trimmers Union have contemplated the formation of a co-operr.live company to do stevedoring work at the port. It is .stated that several big shipping companies are standing behind the unions. 'THE FEDERAL ELECTIONS. SYDNEY, March 18.—The Labour Council negatived a motion that all unionists cease work at dinner time on polling day. The supporters allege that in many cases the bosses refused to allow the men time to go to the ballot box, and that the cessatio not work would stimulate the interest in the election. The opponents argued that the motion really meant a general strike and would he giving the other side a big handle. It was eventually decided to ask Government to declare a half holiday..

SYDNEY, March IS.—The Sdyney manager of the Royal Racket Steam Navigation Company yesterday received a cable from Batavia stating tin' ouhreak of cholera had practically died out. Tin l eaptai.n of the Company’s steamer that had just arrived expressed surprise at the cabled report of the ravages of the disease. When he left there l was.no serious epidemic and the town had just recovered from the recent outbreak.
