THE GOVERNMENT PARTY.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE CAUCUS.

MINISTERS AND MEMBERS.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 11.

There is considerable gossip in the lobbies as to what took place at the Government caucus. A member of the Government party stated in conversation that it was evident that a recasting of the Ministry was within measurable distance. He said that for some time it was perfectly well-known that the party lacked the espirit de corps which should obtain. From what occurred at the caucus, however, it was clear that the position had grown very much worse. "Why," the member continued, "members actually complained of the want of cordiality and aloofness on. the part of Ministers towards members." There is a feeling in well-informed quarters that the healing of the breach among the Government members is only of a temporary character.
