CHEAPER CABLES.
MELBOURNE, Dec. 11.— The Government has instructed Mr Coghlan to press the Pacific Cable Board to introduce a deferred cable rate under which messages delayed until ordinary business is cleared ca.n be sent at the rate of Is 6d per code word and a shilling for ordinary words. Sir Joseph Ward has intimated that he will direct the High Commissioner io support the scheme.
