CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
'A meeting of the Board was held yesterday morning at 11.30 o'clock. Present : — Messrs A. Clifton (chairman), Rouse, McGuigan, Bruce and Byrne.
The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved.
The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows :—: —
From Totara Hospital Committee forwarding accounts for Augnust supplies amounting to £81 15s 2d. — Received.
From same enclosing tender for supplies.
From same recommending acceptance :if the following tenders : — J. Ford, meat; M. Roberts, milk and eggs ; M. Seai'le, wood and coal j P. Hoaley, wines and spirits.
From Surgeon Superintendent reporting on the number of- patients treated during the month of August, as follows : — Admission,3 ; discharged, 1 ; remaining in Hospital, 12. — Received.
From Kumara Benevolent Committee enclosing account for goods supplied to destitute persons, also enclosing £9 voluntary contributions . — Received . From Inspector-General of Hospitals and Charitable Department stating he would be pleased to visit South "Westland with the members of the Board and members of the County as soon as possible, to formulate a scheme for medical requirements for the settlers of the district. — Received.
From E. Nergef asking to bo informed of the decision of the Boafd in regard to a doctor for South Westland. — Received.
Resolved to forward a copy of Dr Valentine's letter asking him to arrange for a deputation at Bruce Bay.
A quantity of correspondence was read dealing with the maintenance of two children in the Kumara district.
A vote of thanks was passed to Mr R. Rouse for his good work in connection with the matter.
F,rom the Westland County Council in regard to the persionnel of the deputation to wait upon the southern settlers in connection with their medical requirements.
From Treasury Department forwarding subsidies amounting to £571 8s. — Received with thanks.
From the Ross Borough Council forwarding £5 16s Bd.
It was reported that the names of two young rcum indebted to the Totara Hospital were being handed to the police with a view of ascertaining their whereabouts.
From the Finance Committee recommending the payment of accounts amoutiting to £408 10s.
The Treasurer reported as follows: Receipts £957 7s; expenditure £643 Is ; cr bank £59 6s Bd. The meeting then terminated.
