MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT.

The following is the text of the agreement come to between John McLean and Sons, Limited, and the lnangahua Miners' Union, at the conference >vith the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr P. Halley) :— (A) The Union shall indemnify the employers' in respect to any wilful damage that may occur to any lamp issued for use to any members of tfie I nion while employed in or about i.he Aitbur Pass tunnel works. (B) The Union shall indemnify ihe employer for the loss of any lamp that may have occurred through the iviliul neglect of any member of the said Union while employed in or about the Arthur's Pass tunnel works. (C) hi respect to any damage or loss that may occur »to the said lamps the employer shall be the sole judge as to whether the cause of the damug c or the loss was due to the wilful neglectful act on the part of the employee. (D) The assessed value of each lamp shall be ten shillings and sixpence (10s 6). . x. (E) The company shall numoer each lamp and shall keep a register showing the names of employee's to whom they are issued. (F) Wherever practicable the employer shall send "notice" to the nee-ro-tary of the local branch of the union of his intention to dismiss any member of the I'nion who may have a lamp m
