ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. Ist

Owing to the wet weather the entries of stock were generally smaller tha> of late, and the attendance was limited. Fat cattle were dull of sale, and fat sheep, owing to a short supply showed an improvement at the op<ining of the sale, but at the close prices fell below those of last week. Store sheep sold well, and pigs showed practically no change. There was a poor demand for store and dairy cattle.

STORE SHEEP.

The entry of store sheep was small one, the majority being hoggets, and these were a few pens of ewes and lambs. There was a better quality for all classes, and hoggets, which were mostly medium sorts, sold bt an advance of about 6d per head. One lot of three-quarterbred ewe hoggets m°,de 13s, halfbred hoggets, small and of mixed sexes, 9s 2d, to 9s 6d, aid ewes and lambs 6s lid, all counted.

FAT LAMBS.

There were a few new season's fat lambs penned, and they sold at 15s Od to- 18s. Six from P. Carpenter (Prebleton) made 16s to 18s, and 6 from A. W.- Beaven (Redcliffs) 15s 6d to IBs.

FAT SHEEP.

- The supply of fat sheep was a short oiie, and included some good lines of wethers. The market opened at an advance oa last week's closing rates but the yarding, though small, uas evidently beyond butchers' requirements and there being no outsi.le competition, prices fell away to less than those realised last week. The range of prices was : — Prime wethers, l ;i s to IDs 7d, others 13s 6d to 15s 6d ; priioe ewes 14s to 1?« 3d, others 10s to 13s { Jd; merino wethers Is; hoggets 0s (id to 13s.

FAT CATTLE.,

There were 304 fat cattle entered, the bulk being of good and prime quality. The sale was very dull and dragging, and a number of pens were passed. Prices ruled about equal to Is pei 1001 b below last week's rates. Steers made £6 5s to £11 ss, heifers Ho 5s to £9 ss, and cows £4 10s to £7 17s Gd, equal to 19s to 21s 6d for prime, 17s 6d to 19s for medium, and 15s lk\ to 17s for cow and inferior beef per 1001 b.

STORE CATTLE

The entry was a very small one, and the quality was poon. The demand was weak, and sales were difficult to make. Yearlings made 28s to Ir)=s, fifteen to eighteen months sorts £0 5s to £2 !??, two year steers, £4 I's 0d ; three year steers £5 15s to £'6 and dry cows 20s to £3 17s 6d.

DAIRY COWS.

Quite a large number of dairy cows were penned, but the quality A\as indifferent, and the demand .vas r. €•:■!•:. Passings were particulary heavy, ana sales were hard to make, the market being a dragging ono. Prices rangeu from £3 to £7 15s. PIGS. There was a medium entry of all classes of pigs, and they sold at about the previous week's prices except stores, which were a little easier. Choppers sold up to £3 13s 6d, lar^e baonuers 55s to 635, equal to 4Jd per lb, large poikers 40s to 445, and lighter 35s to 935, equal to-s*d to s^l per lb , largo stores 25s to 30s, medium l6s io 20s, and weaners 14s to 225.
