WATER POWER REGULATIONS

On Saturday His Worship the Mayor, of Hokitika, despatched the wire copied below to the Hon the Minister for Public Works and Mines. In reply the Mayor yesterday received the telegram also here produced :—: —

H. L. Michel, Mayor of Hokitika. —

"Replying to your telegram of Saturday. Water Power Regulations are administered under the Public Works Act the inspecting engineer of mines lias nothing whatever to do with their administration. (Signed). R. McKen zie."

Water Power. — Mr Reid, Inspector of Mines, here, may I respectfully ask that you should instruct him to confer promoters Rimu proposition with view reporting to you in regard to position: Believe if this were done would result in lemoval present deadlock.
