WAIHI MINING DEVELOPMENT.

AN IMPORTANT SCHEME. [BI TELEGRAPH— PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] THAMES, June 24.— An important conference took place to-day regarding deep levels development between Mr Frank Reed, the Government Mining, Engineer, the local Inspector of Mines and representatives and mine managers j of the companies interested. | The representatives of the compan- ' ies May Queen, Saxon, Victoria, and Waiotahi stated they had agreed on a scheme of development to cross-cut in a direct line from the Queen twenty shaft to the Caledonian shaft. The Kuranui Caledonian, a Home company, would advise in a few days as to its, decision. The cost would be about £18,000. The companies would pay two thousand each, Government providing eight thousand. The scheme is of great importance to the district. It is believed that at a depth of a thousand feet, to which the main shaft is now sunk, another rich gold field will be .opened up. The result of the conference has given satisfaction, as now nothing remains in the way of deep level developments.
