PAYING OVER THE STAKES. [PEB PBE33 ASSOCIATION. — COFTBIOHf ] WANGANUI, June 23.— The ceremony of paying over the stakes in connection with the sculling championship took place this evening, when over 200 sporting enthusiasts, including visitors from various parts of the Dominion and Australia, attended as the guests of the champion. Mr Coombes of the Sydney Referee was in the chair. The proceedings were very enthusiastic. During the evening Webb was presented with a purse of sovereigns, the presentation being initiated by Arnst, in appreciation of Webb's fine performance. Arnst stated that nothing definite had been ararnged by him with Durnan or Barry.
