Nelson, Jane 17 Further particuhrs concerning the fire on the oil launch and the drowning of three Maoris show thai the fire wa& caused through a lantern being dropped. Rene Tewhetu luckily endeavoured to extinguish the flsmes with bis coat and Mohane fell overboard while hastening to assist. Some of the ethers jumped overboard. Aperahama Tewhetu was drowned while trying to save his wife and their little son. Mohi was also drowned as well as Mrs Berata, an elderly woman. There were eleven psrsons in the launch and eight were saved.
