WhiUc tbe Premier was in Auckland the N«w Zealand Government offered to place tke ttcamer Tutamkai at tbe disposal of the French Govern ment and tb« Freuob Consul at Auckland to proceed to Tahiti with food&tuff*. and any other, araiatance which they desired to grt the nativee who tufferdd by the rtcent disaster. At New Plymouth the Preraivr stated be bad received » telegram from tbe Consul at Auckland, tendering biwarmest thank* on behalf of tbe French Government and stating it bad Men' Mcertained that the condition of the Tahiti natives waa not as bad as bad been reported, so that any special araiatance waa not necessary.
