A letter his just been pubh-bt d in the "SuuthUud Press" whioli throws new light on the Wtlah match. It, ia
from Stead, the deputy-captain of the New Zealand team, and fays that a try was fairly fcored by the Colonials, but it was disallowed. Stead states that Gabe, the Welsh three-quarter, admits that in the second spell Deans, whom he (Gabe) collnred on, or over, the line, gained a try. Nicholls, the Welsh captain, also admits tbis.
The London correspondent of the Christchurcb Press, in a letter published on Saturday last, says anent this incident —"Deans dsd actually score a try, crossing the line and grounding the I all"; bu* he was dragged back, and a scrum was formed."
Another correspondent, wntiDg from Home, says— "After several attempts, Deans at last got over for New Zealand, but while lying over che line be was pulled bask by the Welf=h f orwardp, and the referee, who was 30 yards behind, ga re it no score." Mr J Duncan interviewed after the Welsh match, said: "I think a draw would have been more satisfactory result of the game. In my humble opinion, Hunter undoubtedly scored for us in the second half, and I fail to see the reasonableness of the ref eree's decision on the point. It was a grand game, however, and Wales ought to feel proud of her team."
