A SENSATIONAL AFFAIR

A leneatioDil affair occurred this afternoon, followed by some smart work by the police. Four men went to a tenement occupied by two Chinese gardener ■, a short distance from the town. Two men, it is alleged, went in and amused themselves by tormenting the Chinamen. Another itood at the doorway with a large knife, while a fourth broke ia at the door of a second apartment and discovered the Chinamens' hoard amounting to about £33. After a scrimmage the men got away, two going one way and two in another direction. The (China* men followed tbe two said to have taken the money. They returned to the place and another scrimmage ii said to have ensued, after which the men went off again followed by the Chinamen who thought they still had the money. Mean* time neighbours had gathered and the police were rung np. Ihe police passed two men of whom they took bpecial notice. They captured tbe two men who had returned and then Bet out after the others, who had obtained a cab. lv a sbort time the four men were in the cells.
