West Coast Times. TUESDAY, JANUARY 30, 1906. WEST COAST REPRESENTATION AT THE EXHIBITION.

To make an adequate aud thoroughly representative display of all the exhibits we can furnish uo tims will need to be lost by the committees who will have charge of the matter at all centres from one end of the Coast to the other. tVe are af/nost in tho second month of the year and the Exhibition opens in November so that exhibits will need to be on the ground at Uhnstcburch at latest about the middle of September. It is better at the outset to expedite arrangements and to move with all possible speed than to be pushec 1 for time as the day ot the opening of the Exhibition draws mar. It may be expected, as happen? at all Exhibitions, that many of the courts especially those of foreign countries, will not be ready when the Exhibition opens. At other Exhibitions some of those responsible fail to have their c ourts completed for several weeks and even longer after the opening day and t is not unlikely the same thing may happen in Chrisschurch. It should, therefore, be the ambition of the West Coast promoters to be well up to time and to have all exhibits ready so that our court on the opening day may be qu'ta compl te. It will then bo in strong contrast to others not fortunate enough to bo so well prepared. The has been very lucky in the appointment of it* commissioner for the Exhibition, Mr G. J. Roberts, who has already got the preliminary ar* raugemsnts well forward. Mr Roberts has moved &o energetically in the matter that even now he is storing goods intended for the Exhibition and as has been stated iv the press bis prompt actioa in interviewing the Executive of the Ejh'bion in Cbristchurch has resulted in bis being abla to secure all the space that will be requ : red. Mr Roberts' statement to a press representative, when interviewed in Christchurcb, shows that ha takes a broad and most comprehens : ve view of the purposes a special West Coast court will fill at the Exhibition. It will, besides affording au unequalled opportunity for advertising our industries and resources, serve an >quiily important purpose in reviving the good feeling— which, as Mr Roberts says, u«ed ti be so much in evidence in the early days —between Canterbury and the Coast. The Government have prom'sed that the opening of the exhibition will be signalised by one very important accomplishment, viz., the bringiag of Chris f cburch within a day's journey of the Coast. That will prot c the commencement of an era of far mora intimate communication between the West Coast and Canterbury than has hitherto existed, and the Wist Coast Court will be a meeting ground where West Coasters will learn to know their Canterbury neighbours better. Canterbury and the Coast can be of the greatest service to each other mutually, and although through lack of commercial intercourse the people of both provinces hare grown to know less of eoch other tban formerly, still their interests in common will quickly bring them together, when the existing diffi culties of travel are overcome and the journey te Christchurch can b<> made in a day The West Coast Court will then show not ouly the Canterbury people, but all who visit the Exhibition how well worth payiug a vis.t co the Coast is, and while the Exhibition is open we may expect a cousideiable influx ot vipitora in cons' quenoe. Mr Roberts has prepared a comprehensive li<t of our exhibits, winch n-ust bd procured frooj all parts" of tho (Joa i t, and it will take a considerable time to yet them in and ;i longer time to prepare such articles a* arc 10 be shown in a mfinufactured state. As we fcave said, therefore, if. behoves all who will assume the responsibility of their collection and transfer to Christchurch to muke an immediate start. Our Fxhibition Oominis*ion--r lias laid the foundation of the Court on proper lints, aud In only n.ida to b enthusiastic illy and energetically sup ported, i.s no doubt he will be, ti make the West Coat-t Court one of tho best and most inteiesting in the I xhi l )iti<>i>, a«da lasting credit to all oncerned.

Maik Sprot and Co will s-± 1 by auc tion in their mart to-day 75 cite* aismted Nilson fruit, a'ao a quantity of secot-d baud furmture,
