THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION

The weekly official review of the pro gress of the New Zealand International Exhibition states that a heavy wind storm swept over Hagley Park on Sunday and damaged the main buildjngof the exhibition which is in course of erection. Tbe extent of tbe damage was very much exaggerated and some unwarranted statements of serious delay.*, etn., were made. An independent turvey of the damage was held when it was ascertained that the total loss its some £704. Thn survey confirms the statement of those who ought to know that the accident would not iv any way affect the progress of the exhibition and that thare was no occasion for alarm. The decorative committee has recommended that advantage bo taken of Sir Joseph Ward's visit to Italy, and that he be requested and tmpowered to purchase £500 worth of stitatary for decorative purposes. The commissioners have endorsed tbe committee's recommendations and the Government has given the necessary authority. Air Jam9B M'Donald, of the Colonial Museum staff ac Wellington, is now preparing a series of life s ; ze models of Maori chiefs to he placed in the maio hall of the museum and it has been decided to ask the Government to lend the Executive commi^ioueis tK-i-era id Is for the decorating of thegranJ ball of the °x')ibitioM. It has been definitely settled to hsue commemorative postal otauipi in connection with tbe exhibition and thjse will only be purchaseable at the exhibition baildiags, Stampa of this nature are not available for central purposes a^cordin^ to the rulea of the potal uuioo, but arangemenls may be mide with certain countries to recognise them. It is anticipated that the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Australia will agree to recognise tbese stamps which will ensure a considerable circulating value
