Lewis Etzel was in a Chinese jnuk south of Niuchcwang was shot dead by Chinese soldiers. He was the Tiaily Telegraph's correspondent at Tientsin.

Etzel was an American miller. Tbe American Conßul General at Niuchwang has gone to investigate his death.
