Apropos to MrSeddon's denial, London shipowners assert that German firms received precisely the sam 9 private information to tender at precisely the same time as themselves. A public invitation to tender was issued four days later.

Wellington, Jan 22

The Premier forwards the following message to the Press Association :—"I: — "I desire to inform you that the statement in the cable from London appearing in fco-day's papers to the effect that private intimation was given to German shipping companies four days before it was publicly advertised is untrue. The advertisement appeared in the New Zealand papers on 24th of December last and instructions to the Agent-General to notify the shipping companies that tenders were advertised hpn went on the 27th ef December.
